The genus Artemisia (family Asteraceae) includes mugwort (A. vulgaris) and wormwood (A. absinthium).
Habitat and distribution
Roadsides, riverbanks, wasteland and steppe areas.
Health impact
Pollination from July to October. Relevant allergen at the end of summer.
Cross-reactivity
Cross-reactivity with other Asteraceae. Celery-mugwort-spice syndrome links mugwort allergy with food allergy to celery, carrot, mustard and spices.
Pollen morphology
Tricolporate pollen grain, spheroidal, 18-25 μm. Spinulose surface.
