The genus Quercus (family Fagaceae) includes holm oaks (Q. ilex), oaks (Q. robur, Q. pyrenaica), cork oaks (Q. suber) and Portuguese oaks (Q. faginea).
Habitat and distribution
Widespread in the Community of Madrid. Quercus ilex is the most common tree in the Iberian Peninsula.
Health impact
Pollination from March to June. They produce enormous amounts of pollen but their allergenicity is moderate.
Cross-reactivity
Cross-reactivity among different Quercus species and with chestnut and beech, from the same Fagaceae family.
Pollen morphology
Tricolpate-tricolporate pollen grain, prolate, 20-30 μm. Verrucate-granular surface.
